This video shows you that NAL’s Saras PT1N Teaser Hints Take Off Time Is Near.

The first flight of the Saras PT1N in the coming days is imminent as the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) has made public a video of the aircraft undergoing high speed taxi trials.

A minute-long video of the Saras PT1N taxiing on the HAL airport’s runway has been uploaded by NAL, indicating that the first flight of the aircraft since 2009 will go off the ground very soon.

The video shows the aircraft slowly taxiing on the runway before picking up speed. There is also a shot of its glass cockpit displaying various flight parameters.

The release of the video gains significance as a recent report had stated that the first flight of the aircraft would take place after one final high speed taxi trial.

After reviving the programme, NAL had been conducting engine ground runs and handed over the aircraft Indian Air Forces ASTE for carrying out low speed taxi trials and high speed taxi trials.

The first flight of the Saras PT1N was to take place last year, but was delayed then.

The Saras India’s first multi purpose civilian aircraft programme had suffered a huge blow in 2009. On March 6, 2009 a SARAS prototype aircraft crashed in Seshagirihalli near Bidai on the outskirts of Bengaluru killing three IAF Officers.

The SARAS PT1N (the new aircraft) has undergone a lot of modifications. NAL officials told Bangalore Mirror that the SARAS PT1N after modification has additional features like a New Necelle design, stall warning system, larger rudder power, high power engine, an improved FCS and other features, as compared to PT2.

“The flight-testing and evaluation of existing SARAS PT1N aircraft will provide essential information towards arriving at aircraft configuration towards realisation of new 14/19 seater aircraft that will be the enhancement of SARAS design. Also the developmental flights of SARAS PT1N will lead to evaluation of performance and handling characteristics of the aircraft to finetune the design modifications,” the officials had said.

The indigenous aircraft with a range of 1,200 km, altitude up to 3,000 feet, and speed of 500 km/h has multiple applications for military transportation, air ambulance, maritime patrolling, border surveillance, commutation for regional connectivity and special missions.
